It’s finally here! We’ve been waiting on this video all day & innovative artist Janelle Monáe just unveiled “PrimeTime” featuring none other than Miguel!
“We’re gonna kind of be experiencing Janelle’s world set in a very Blade Runner-like setting,” Miguel told ET. “I happen to play the love interest in the video, so it’s going to be fun and interesting… The set is incredible and I don’t think we’ve ever seen Janelle like this, so it’s exciting.”
Janelle added, “I’m just honored to be working with Miguel. He and I are both fans of one another, so it was very organic how it all happened. I love his voice, I love what he stands for as an artist and when I had written ‘PrimeTime,’ I thought of him.”
The song is taken from Janelle’s latest album The Electric Lady, which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard charts!

The nation celebrated its 237th birthday with some red, white, and Mimi. Mariah Carey headlined “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” in New York on Independence Day. Hosted by Nick Cannon, the two-hour event also featured performances from Taylor Swift, Pitbull, and Selena Gomez, plus an amazing fireworks display curated by Usher.
The pop diva kicked off the evening with a performance of “America the Beautiful” from Liberty State Park. Dressed in a flowing red gown, she belted out the patriotic tune during the pre-taped set.
While nestled between bales of hay, Miguel joined her for their hit collaboration “#Beautiful.”
Before the fireworks lit up the night sky, she changed into a sparkly black number for “Hero,” dedicating it to the “heroes that make us so proud.”
“Thank you so much for all the comments about Hero. Grateful to spend the fourth of July in unity. Feels #Beautiful,” tweeted Mariah.

It is no secret that I adore Janelle Monáe! And if it’s possible, I adore her even more for collaborating with two of my of favorite, favorite, favorite artists in the world, Icon Prince and progressive R&B heartthrob Miguel!
“We are great friends, and he is a mentor to us, to me,” Monáe reportedly told Billboard. “It’s a beautiful thing to have a friend — someone who cares about your career and wants to see you go far and to push boundaries and shake up the world — give whatever they possibly can to the cause.”
Although there isn’t much information circulating about Monae’s collaboration with Sir Prince, I am just thrilled to know that he has agreed to contribute to the LP. However, we do know that Janelle’s creation with Miguel is a love song entitled, “Primetime,” which samples the Pixies smash “Where Is My Mind?” infused with a funk beat. Continue reading
