New Song: John Legend “Who Did That To You?”

7 Dec

For the new film Django Unchained directed by Quentin Tarantino, R&B/Soul crooner John Legend has been enlisted to lend his golden vocals to the soundtrack. Legend’s song “Who Did That to You?” was co-written and produced by Paul Epworth (Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”), displays a darker side. “I’m excited to be a part of this film and the soundtrack,” said Legend. “When I first learned that Quentin was making Django Unchained—a film set in the South two years before the Civil War—I felt a strong connection to the story. I knew that I wanted to compose a song for this film; a song that would not only give voice to Django, a man willing to stand up and fight for his lover’s honor, but also feel like a natural fit in a Tarantino film.” The new album Love in the Future by John Legend is currently being mixed and is due spring 2013. Buzz: Whitney Houston receives Billboard Millennium Award

21 May

Music Icon Whitney Houston received posthumous honor at the Billboard Awards 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The late megastar was tributed by John Legend and Jordin Sparks who performed “Greatest Love of All” and “I Will Always Love You.” Houston received the highest honor of the night, the Millennium Award and accepting on her behalf was her only child, daughter Bobbi Kristina and manager/sister-in-law, Pat Houston. Whitney Houston holds the distinction of being the first artist ever to have seven consecutive No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 and her biggest hit, “I Will Always Love You,” spent 14 weeks atop the chart in 1993. She earned 16 Billboard Music Awards, six Grammys, 23 American Music Awards, two Emmys and has sold 170 million combined albums, single and videos worldwide. Sparks will play the daughter of Houston’s character in her final film, the remake of ”Sparkle,” due late 2012. For me, Houston’s talent is unparalleled. She was a gem and I hope to see more salutations for her throughout the year and beyond! Watch the tribute below…

If you’ve never heard of Vaughn Anthony, he comes from the same musical family that has blessed us with his brother/singer John Legend. The brothers have been singing together for years in the church and Vaughn has been one of the background singers for John since he hit the music scene. “Hold Me Down” is a really nice track and I love how their voices sound together…the bridge section is my favorite part, I have to repeat it after that. Buzz: Mariah Carey Xmas Reloaded

21 Nov

If you follow Mariah, you know that she loves being extra festive when the holiday season approaches, especially Christmas and with it being right around the corner, she decided to remix a few songs off of her best-selling Christmas album from 2010, “Merry Christmas II You”. From a previous interview, MiMi reported that she already has a remix with Justin Beiber and now, continuing in the fashion, a new duet with John Legend entitled, “When Christmas Comes.” Carey and Legend have also shot a video for the song, so look out for that. Personally, I don’t get into the holiday spirit until I hear some tunes for that time of year, so I am looking forward to the rerelease of this album with the bonus remixes. Listen here…
