EP: J. Cole “Truly Yours 2″

10 May

After dropping his new single, “Cole Summer,” on Tuesday night, J. Cole quickly followed up with a new 6-track EP.

The sequel to February’s 5-track “Truly Yours” EP, “Truly Yours 2,” available for free, features Young Jeezy, 2 Chainz and Bas helping out the 28-year-old rapper. Jake One and Canei Finch also contributed production on the set.

The EP features varied sounds, from chill summer jams such as “Kenny Lofton” that harken back to old-school vibes, to dark club anthems such as “Chris Tucker.”

Known for his way of name-dropping in tracks, Cole even caught the attention of former “Sister, Sister” actress Tia Mowry, who’s mentioned with her sister in the track “Cole Summer” in a not-so-PG way. The actress innocently tweeted, “So I’m hearing J Cole mentioned the sis and I in a song? Send me the link? I’m curious..” to which the rapper responded, “”Noooo @tiamowry Don’t do itttttttt.”

The MC’s sophomore album, “Born Sinner,” originally slated for January 28, comes out June 25 via Roc Nation and Universal. Cole has also been in the studio with TLC, helping with their upcoming release. Continue reading

New Song: J. Cole “Cole Summer”

1 May

As he nears completion on his sophomore album, J. Cole takes a break from recording to remind us that he’s coming with heat this summer dropping the soulful track “Cole Summer.”

The cover is a reference to his mother, who used to work at the post office. “I told her quit her job, but hold your horses/ If my next album flop, it’s back to the post office, both of us,” he raps over a sample of Lauryn Hill’s “Nothing Even Matters.”

Drizzy shared his thoughts on the introspective track. “COLE SUMMER!!! Haaaaa. That’s my brother man. Bars too real. Too ill.”

Cole is putting the finishing touches on Born Sinner before it drops on June 25. “Few Days to finish the album then off to Mixing. Here’s some thoughts. Cole Summer,” he stated. Continue reading

9 Apr

Miguel joins J. Cole in the music video for their buzzing new collabo “Power Trip.” The two artists put a chilling and dark spin on the love song, as J. Cole commits murder in the grim visual.

The cinematic clip opens with a nervous-looking Cole at the strip club, cutting to him parked outside a girl’s house as her boyfriend, Miguel, gets ready to go out. Cole and a friend are later seen driving with wood and plastic bags on top of their car. A cop pulls them over along the highway, but lets them go after finding just a shovel in their trunk.

They continue to the forest, where we discover that Cole has acted out on his murderous plans as he unloads a body from the roof. But just who was the victim?

Watch the tragic end to his love story below… Continue reading

New Song: J. Cole “I’m A Fool”

18 Sep

Previously giving his fans a snippet of the track this summer at Rock The Bells, J. Cole now releases an official version of “I’m A Fool” via his Dreamville Records. The track samples Cee-Lo & Melanie Fiona’s hit “Fool For You,” which speaks on issues of racking up a six-figure college debt at St. John’s University, but also acknowledges that he became the first person in his family to graduate from college. Cole’s wordplay is clever & I’m looking forward to his upcoming solo project, as well as, the highly-anticipated collaborative LP alongside fellow emcee Kendrick Lamar. Reportedly, the pair have began recording tracks for the album. Listen to “I’m A Fool” below…
