New Video: Jessie Ware “Wildest Moments”

11 Jul

English singer-songwriter Jessie Ware has released her new video for the single “Wildest Moments,” from the upcoming debut album Devotion, available August 13th via PMR Records. Ware recently spoke about her musical influences and inspirations stating, ” I listened to lots of jazz music—Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Frank Sinatra, and really learned a lot about timing and the way that they approached a song. I mean, Frank Sinatra has some of the best timing in the world. My mom was always into Sade and lots of soul music like, Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. Then I got really into R&B. Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child, SWV.” The latest track “Wildest Moments” was produced by Dave Okumu & Kid Harpoon with the visuals were directed by Kate Moross. I really LOVE this girl and she always speaks of her hopes of collaborating with Drake, so I’m looking forward to a possible remix! Watch below! Continue reading

Center Stage: Kymberley Kennedy

11 Jul

METY recently came into another amazing artist worthy of sharing…UK singer-songwriter Kymberley Kennedy. Her latest mixtape “The Kym Possible” is a cool release that’s full of personality and power vocals. The featured song “That’s What He Said” is a funky-fresh track that infuses vintage jazz with nice horns and lots of sass. Kym sings about making her own lane in the music world despite any obstacles, haters, etc. So far, my fav songs on the mixtape are Blackout, Cry Baby ft. Jay-Z, Hit & Run and Green Apples vs. Glory Box. However, when I played the final track “Great Gig in the Sky,” I became totally mesmerized by the compelling vocals. Kym immersed herself into this rendition and it was so much more than a Pink Floyd cover, it was believable! Simply a breath of passion, even without lyrics. Kennedy’s vocals on that song alone proves that she needs to be heard! This songstress is a gem for sure, so stay tuned! Download her entire mixtape here:

Throwback of the Day: Stevie Wonder

11 Jul

Legend Stevie Wonder is a musical genius that touched my life immensely with his artistry. His musicianship is God-given because of the way he’s able to touch his audience beyond his disability. To me, his compositions are much like poetry and when his voice is applied, it’s magical. When I first started to dive into Stevie’s catalog, it was as if I had an epiphany, I thought to myself, sooo this is what it’s all about! Stevie taught me to create lyrics that are meaningful when I write and not to necessarily focus on trends or what’s hot at the moment, but what my heart says. “Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You)” is one of my MOST favorite songs he’s ever composed. I love everything about it with the key changes, lyrics, guitar chord progressions, soulful vocals and of course, the unscripted adlibs. Wonder’s music is very spiritual to me, being that one can feel his spirit through song…it’s so uplifting & overall, gives off an amazing vibe. His works are masterpieces to me and I believe they transcend time! Press play…
