Throwback of the Day: Arrested Development

19 Apr

So, most of the time when I select the throwbacks, I think about the music that really touched my soul, struck a chord with me, and made me love this amazing thing called music and I remember my parents playing this song approximately 20 years ago and I just LOVED it. “People Everyday” is such a feel-good song and it placed Arrested Development in heavy rotation on my walkman, yes, walkman. The song contains an interpolation of the 60s hit by Sly & the Family Stone and is taken from the album 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days In The Life Of…, which noted the time it took for the Grammy Award-winning band to bag a record deal. I loved the band so much because they were conscious artists and utilized live instrumentation to hold the perfect balance between hip-hop and soul. New Video: Jason Mraz “I Won’t Give Up” Live

19 Apr

Jason Mraz gave a live performance in London of ”I Won’t Give Up,” the first single from his fourth studio album Love is a Four Letter Word. I love his vocal stylings, he knows when to use restraint and tenderness and also, when to open his vocals. His signature acoustic style reminds me of coffeehouse sets, but I love that element. Stripped and raw in nature. Mraz stated about the album, “It’s an album of love songs, but not just through the filter of romanticism. It’s also through compassion and empathy and love of our natural world. At the end of the project, I still didn’t feel like these 12 songs summed up what love is. I was like, ‘I don’t know. Love is a four letter word.’” Watch now!
