Upcoming Tour: Florence + the Machine

26 Jan

Florence + the Machine has officially announced their spring U.S. tour! Kicking off in Santa Barbara, California, the group is planning on being one of the first bands to ignite 2012 with a sizzling tour. Embarking on the tour to support their Ceremonials album, I’m sure they won’t disappoint & will revisit the epic tunes from the Lungs LP as well. Straying from the grandiose theatrics, Florence has stated that the group will allow the songs to lead the way this time around. “In a way, it’s not going to be too big a production; we’ve done a lot of quite extravagant stuff, and that’s been amazing, but for this tour, it’s definitely going to be about showcasing the music,” she said. “The songs are going to be the most important thing. It will be heavily based on the music … no bells and whistles just yet, we’re going to try and keep it quite pure.” Also, friend and former collaborator Dev Hynes, aka Blood Orange, is scheduled as the opening act. Get the tour dates, after the jump…

New Video: Mary J. Blige @ Live! with Kelly

26 Jan

Mary J. Blige gave a powerful performance on Live! with Kelly, for the song “Living Proof”, which was featured on her album My Life II and The Help Soundtrack. Mary has been vocal in the last few days about her disappointment regarding an Oscar snub and she felt it was “mean” that The Academy only nominated two songs in the category when there are five slots available. Blige had rave reviews for the song, yet did not receive a nomination nor did Madonna and Elton John for their song contributions in the movie The Help. The Grammy Award-winning singer (and co-star of the George Lucas-produced “Red Tails”) has moved from Def Jam to Motown Records, according to a statement sent to MTV News on Wednesday (January 25). Not only that, Ne-Yo will also take over as the label’s senior vice president of A&R.

“I’m honored that I¹ve been given such a prestigious title and trusted with such responsibility; terrified because I know that playing this role in the fashion of one of my career role models, Mr. Smokey Robinson — these are big shoes to fill. But trust, I can handle it,” the singer said in the statement.

Ne-Yo released his debut In My Own Words on Def Jam in 2006 and dropped three subsequent albums with the powerhouse hip-hop label. The singer/songwriter’s fifth LP will now come through Motown, which, like Def Jam, falls under the Universal umbrella. In addition to his artistry and ear for talent as an A&R, Ne-Yo will also bring his Compound Entertainment imprint over to Motown.
