Throwback of the Day: Beyoncé

31 Jan

My FAV girl in the world is Beyoncé and in this video she sings her emotional ballad “Dangerously in Love”, which she actually wrote for the multi-platinum Survivor album by Destiny’s Child, but the record label felt at that time, the song was too mature for the teenagers & didn’t push for it to become a single. Therefore, she decided to place it on her first solo album because it had great significance to her and she was finally an adult and she was right, radio ran the song endlessly before it was ever released as an official single. I have probably seen every performance she has ever done and she is never off pitch, sings live and dances while singing with such breath control. The reason why I chose this video is because it’s not about the choreography, it is all about her vocal control, trills, slides, and her famous runs and it displays why she is amazing. To me, there is no one like Beyoncé. Taken from her first solo tour Live in Wembley. Watch here…

Buzz: Beyoncé Tribute Statue in Hometown

28 Jan

With a career that eclipsed many of her peers, King B has reached the pinnacle of success, therefore it comes as no surprise that she will be immortalized. Beyoncé has taken the music industry by storm for the past fifteen years and has received myriad accolades in recognition of her craft. Although she remains humble and does not thirst for press surrounding her good deeds, Beyoncé has supported many charities, as well as, founding her own organization The Survivor Foundation, which housed hundreds of victims from the Hurricane Katrina catastrophe when no assistance was given. She also held food drives in support of Feed America during her concerts and has donated to Children’s hospitals around the world. Now her hometown of Houston, Texas plans to build a monument in tribute of the international superstar. The city has joined forces with marketing company, Armdeonce Ventures, as well as corporate sponsors and private donors, to complete and unveil the project reportedly by the end of 2012. For acknowledgment, every donor and corporate sponsor will have their name etched onto the monument and receive an invitation to the unveiling ceremony and celebration event. Proceeds from the statue will go towards charitable causes, including donations to Hurricane Katrina victims and flooding victims in the  states of Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.

New Song: Sean Paul ft. Kelly Rowland

Here is the new joint from Reggae artist Sean Paul featuring Pop and R&B singer Kelly Rowland, entitled “How Deep Is Your Love”. The song will be featured on Paul’s upcoming album Tomahawk Technique, due in stores worldwide January 30th. The dancehall track was produced by Stargate and penned by Ester Dean. New Video: Ke$ha ft. André 3000, T.I., Wiz Khalifa & Lil Wayne

28 Jan

Ke$ha displays a more comedic side in her newest video “Sleazy Remix 2.0 – Get Sleazier”.  Instead of cameos from Wiz Khalifa, André 3000, T.I., and Lil Wayne for the clip, Ke$ha has casted unlikely characters. A drag queen was appointed for Khalifa’s verse, André 3000 is depicted by Napoleon Dynamite (actor Efren Ramirez) and T.I.’s character appears as an older person rapping from a wheelchair during a chess game. Ke$ha stated, “This video is the product of my friends seeing how sleazy the already monumentally Sleazy Remix 2.0 could get. Brace yourself because this video takes SLEAZY to a whole new level.” For me, the video was okay, it wasn’t what I saw for the song. I completely get that she was trying to think out of the box and do something different, but if all of the Hip-Hop artists were present for their parts, the video could have been epic. I love the instrumental, as well as, Andre and T.I.’s verses most of all, but the guys should have been in the video. {Disclaimer: The following visuals & audio are graphic and explicit}

Throwback of the Day: Lauryn Hill

27 Jan

This song is one that I can’t ever get out of my head and Lauryn Hill has made an impact in my life & many others for the true artist she is. “Ex-Factor” will go down as one of my most favorite songs of all-time and to me, she is brilliant. I wanted to share this because I just loved the live performance Hill gave in Japan, along with the fact that she threw in an impromptu rap toward the end that was so dope! Watch here…

Listen here…

Upcoming Tour: Florence + the Machine

26 Jan

Florence + the Machine has officially announced their spring U.S. tour! Kicking off in Santa Barbara, California, the group is planning on being one of the first bands to ignite 2012 with a sizzling tour. Embarking on the tour to support their Ceremonials album, I’m sure they won’t disappoint & will revisit the epic tunes from the Lungs LP as well. Straying from the grandiose theatrics, Florence has stated that the group will allow the songs to lead the way this time around. “In a way, it’s not going to be too big a production; we’ve done a lot of quite extravagant stuff, and that’s been amazing, but for this tour, it’s definitely going to be about showcasing the music,” she said. “The songs are going to be the most important thing. It will be heavily based on the music … no bells and whistles just yet, we’re going to try and keep it quite pure.” Also, friend and former collaborator Dev Hynes, aka Blood Orange, is scheduled as the opening act. Get the tour dates, after the jump…

New Video: Mary J. Blige @ Live! with Kelly

26 Jan

Mary J. Blige gave a powerful performance on Live! with Kelly, for the song “Living Proof”, which was featured on her album My Life II and The Help Soundtrack. Mary has been vocal in the last few days about her disappointment regarding an Oscar snub and she felt it was “mean” that The Academy only nominated two songs in the category when there are five slots available. Blige had rave reviews for the song, yet did not receive a nomination nor did Madonna and Elton John for their song contributions in the movie The Help.
