I’ve never met a Teena Marie song that I did not love. She has made such a huge impact in my life and in my singing-songwriting style. Teena was a brilliant writer and I feel that her spirit lives on in all of her songs. ”Casanova Brown” is significant because it’s one of the first I learned that taught me how to scat. If I had to choose one genre that I love most of all(which is very hard), it probably would be jazz. Although, Teena’s style was soul-driven, she always managed to throw in a few jazz songs and this one is just everything to me. There are no words to express how saddened I am by her passing.
