Throwback of the Day: Etta James

30 Dec

From 1962, I have loved this song since first listen & this performance is just everything! The legendary Etta James set the blueprint for Rock & Blues with a voice that was limitless exuding rasp, grit and underlying pain. If anyone ever doubted the mark she has made in musical history, this video should retract ANY uncertainty. James is one of the greatest ever to grace us with her gift and tell her story through song. She gave me chills in the first 21 seconds of this clip, now that’s damn good! Watch one of my most fav performances! Press play…

New Video: Jessie J “Domino”

29 Dec

Island Records artist Jessie J has been compared to Adele, Amy Winehouse and Katy Perry, but to me, she has her own swag and signature sound. Hailing from the U.K., Jessie began her career as a songwriter, composing songs for Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus. Here is her latest video for the second official US single, “Domino” from her album Who You Are…watch here!

Currently, she is signed to Interscope Records through producer Alex Da Kid’s KIDinaKORNER. Now preparing her sophomore studio album entitled, The Buried Sessions of Skylar Grey, which is scheduled for release in mid 2012.  Watch her most recent video for the powerful song ”Invisible” now…

Center Stage: Maverick Sabre

29 Dec

I always love when I watch a tv show or a movie and I hear background music that makes me block out what I’m actually watching and manages to completely grab my undivided attention. That’s what happened as I watched VH1′s Love & Hip-Hop last night and I kept wondering whose voice was on that captivating track. Then, I began to search for this person & I found…Maverick Sabre! He is an upcoming artist out of the U.K. and I’m feeling this guy. This is Maverick’s latest video for the official single “I Need”.  I am definitely looking forward to his debut album, Lonely Are The Brave, which is due in stores Feb 6th 2012. Press play!

New Video: Beyoncé’s tribute to Michael Jackson

28 Dec

It has taken quite some time for this video to surface, I wanted to post it when I first saw it in October, but there were NO clear videos. So, here is Beyoncé performing as a tribute to Michael Jackson who is one of her biggest inspirations at his benefit concert. This is not the first time Beyoncé has paid tribute to MJ, on her “I AM” world tour Philly show, she sang my fav MJ song, “I Can’t Help It” because it was the night after he passed and she also added to the remaining tour dates an emotional tribute at the closing of “Halo”. If it were not for Michael Jackson, many artists would not be the artists they are and B acknowledges that ALL the time! Here, she is performing “Where You Are”, which is the first song she practiced and showcased that sealed her first record deal. And let me add that I loved what Paris had to say! Watch my girl sing her heart out…

New Song: Frank Ocean “4 Tears”

27 Dec

Frank Ocean put together a brief song he wanted his fans to hear entitled, “4 Tears”. Frank actually cringes at the term R & B and even though, this song is very soulful, he would rather not be placed in a box. I love what he has been dishing out, as well as, this song, although it is really more of an interlude. I’m looking forward to his studio album release in 2012. Listen here…
